hidden text checker.

A file can hide text its reading view never shows. Upload a Word or PDF file, or paste the text, to find anything hidden or invisible in it.

how it works.

  1. 01

Upload the file or paste the prompt

Drop in the Word or PDF file your instructor posted, or paste the assignment text straight from it. Lervan doesn't keep either one.

  2. 02

    Read what was hidden

Lervan reports white or tiny text, Word runs marked hidden, invisible characters, and lines that appear to address an automated reader.

  3. 03

    Work from the real prompt

Now you know exactly what the file says before you copy any part of it anywhere.

Hidden content has ordinary explanations as well as deliberate ones: revision history, copied formatting, OCR layers, accessibility work, template residue, or instructions aimed at software. A finding shows what is in the file; it does not prove who put it there or why.

Some signals are difficult to spot in the ordinary reading view. Lervan inspects the file structure and quotes the passages it can identify so you can read them in context.

Invisible characters are hidden text of a different kind. Zero-width spaces, word joiners, direction marks, and Unicode tag characters take up no room on the page, so they ride along when you copy and paste. Tag characters can even spell out a whole instruction that never shows on screen. Lervan counts invisible characters in the text and flags any line that addresses an AI.

what to check yourself

  • Word (.docx) and PDF files, or paste the text directly. Word files get the deepest check, because Word records exactly how each run of text is styled.
  • Private by default: the file is read to return the result and is never saved to your account.

fair questions.

why would an assignment have hidden text in it?

Hidden text can come from copied formatting, tracked revisions, OCR, accessibility work, templates, or a deliberate instruction. The finding alone does not establish intent, so preserve the original and read the text in context.

what exactly does this find?

White and near-white text, text set to a near-invisible size, runs marked as hidden in Word, zero-width characters, and lines that appear to address an automated reader. Each finding is quoted so you can read it yourself.

is this an invisible text checker too?

Yes. Hidden text and invisible text mean the same thing here: text a person cannot see but software can still read. It checks for formatting that hides words and for invisible characters.

which invisible characters does it find?

Zero-width spaces and joiners, word joiners, left-to-right and right-to-left marks, direction overrides, byte order marks, private-use characters, and Unicode tag characters.

does this change my document?

No. Lervan reads the file and reports what it finds. Your copy is untouched, and Lervan doesn't keep the file.

is the hidden text checker free?

Yes. A free account includes 10 checks a month, no card required. Pro includes unlimited checks.
